In a small isolated corner of Sevenoaks School, there is a small 25 yard shooting range. The only facility attached to this range is a portacabin. Malcolm West, coaches shooting at this range.

Since he has coached at the school, he has tripled the club size; from 20 to 60 students. He also runs the King’s College London shooting club as well as local clubs. From these clubs, Mal (as we lovingly call him at school), produces almost all of the Kent Junior Squad and a quarter of the Kent Ladies, and has been doing so for the past 7 years.

Mal has a very unique teaching style to say the least. He encourages us not to think about the scores, but to focus on the feel of the shoot. He purposefully hides our scores from us so that we don’t get discouraged, and boy, does it work!

Mal has helped the school win the NSRA National Roll Of Marksman (and junior) Shield, breaking two national records which were held since 1989, and yet he works from a portacabin.

I hope this isn’t too late. Thank you very much.
