Al Horn is the head Rowing coach at Eton Excelsior Rowing Club with over 100 junior members.

Most people think that knowledge of a sport and being a good teacher is what it takes to be a coach. Al Horn is most definitely this; but he is so much more too. He leads by example, keeping children motivated regardless as to what level they are at. Al rows himself showing children that he is aware of the level of hard work and determination that is required to get to a competitive level.

Al is always positive in his approach and, above all, the children all love him. At competitive events Al is always present, regardless of when it is, and remains calm and collected which rubs off on the competitors in the Eton Excelsior squad.

The children Al coaches develop not only their rowing skills but confidence, self discipline, dedication and good team work which Al has directly impacted on due to his being such an excellent role model. There cannot possibly be a more deserving winner of this competition.
