David Slade, founder and non-executive chairman of Birmingham-based insurance brokerage, Perkins Slade, has won the Achievement Award at the British Insurance Awards 2009 for his contribution to insurance broking during a career spanning five decades.
The BIA accolade is his second for 2009. David also won the Lifetime Achievement Award at the annual national awards for industry magazine, Insurance Age, earlier this year.
David started his career in 1961, aged just 16, working for a major insurer. Nine years later he founded Perkins Slade Limited, now the largest privately owned insurance brokerage in the West Midlands, specialising in providing insurance and risk management advice for corporate businesses, sports organisations and private individuals.
In addition to his commitment to the insurance industry, David is a proud Brummie, keen to contribute to the region where he’s spent most of his career. He has held the position of director of the Birmingham Chamber of Commerce, Birmingham Forward, The Princes Trust (Birmingham and Solihull) and has successfully completed the role of Chairman of the Landmark appeal, raising over £600,000 in 24 months to fund the restoration of the Church of St John the Baptist in Bromsgrove.
Speaking about his latest award, Mr Slade commented,
“It is enormously flattering to be judged by one’s peers as being worthy of this accolade, particularly as everything I have done has been such fun.”
